Getah untuk Pribumi programme is one of lucky365 jackpot’s initiatives to improve national productivity to 2,000 kg/ha/year which is in line with NKEA. The objectives are:
Four Orang Asli settlements covering an area of 206.1 hectares with 78 participants are involved in GUP Sabah. The selected villages are Kg Paung Maragang (29 participants), Kg Bambangan (29 participants), Kg Sinoko (7 participants) and Kg kuala umagar (13 participants). Participants are supplied with high yielding clones such as RRIM 2023, RRIM 2025 and PB 350.
As of November, 59.03 hectares of land were cleared as shown in the table below. However, land in Kg Sinoko could not be cleared using machineries. It was done manually by cutting trees involving an area of 9.03 ha.
As of September, an area of 21 ha in two villages have been cleared where 5 ha were terraced in Kg Paung Maragang. Land clearing process was slow due to the rainy season.
As at July 2012, the land clearing have been started by marking the border of participant’s field.
Planting activity is slow due to rainy season throughout the month of December. To date, a total of 73,001 plants were being supplied (64%). Weed control and fertilisation activities are diligently carried out on rubber planted areas. Pruning activity was carried out on a number of participants’ holdings together with brunch induction activity.
It is reported that root disease attack has been identified at a number of project locations especially at Kuala Lumagar, Paung Maragang and Bambangan. A number of participants were given fungicides and sulphur as a temporary measure. The participant, En Kapis bin Kindar’s holding, that was planted with rubber was hit by floods and a total of 65 plants died.
A total area of 167.3 (81%) hectares of land was cleared and 74 hectares were planted with rubber trees. The first phase of mortality census was conducted on the holdings that had completed planting and the rate recorded was 2.98% mostly due to hot and dry weather. Replacements of dead and damaged plants are ongoing to maintain a density of 500 and 700 plants per hectare on hilly and flat terrain respectively.
Planting progress was slow because of the supply of planting material. Negotiation with the supplier was done to expedite supply of rubber plants from the remaining clones. New tender will be open for the rubber clones that are not available with the present supplier in order to get the supply from other suppliers including from Sarawak.
Land clearing and rubber planting were still on going. Land clearing activities at GUP Bambangan and Sinoko will start in June 2013. An area of 123.5 hectares was cleared and 15 hectares of land were planted with rubber seedlings.
Weed control and manuring activities are actively carried out by the participants at their respective lots.
As of March, an area 102.1 hectare has been cleared and 4.1 hectare has been planted with rubber seedlings. Participants who have cleared clearing their lot, are now seeking the planting pegs for lining and planting activities.
As of January, land clearing has reached 44.5% or 91.4 hectare. Land clearing activity was slow due to labour issues, machines breakdown and rainy seasons. The participants are currently at the field lining stage and planting are yet to be done.
Due to excess seedlings, the meeting of the Steering Committee No. 5/2014 on 11th August 2014, agreed to hand over these 5,150 polybags of seedlings to participants who had cleared their holdings to more than the stipulated acreage. Seventen participants and 15.93 hectares were involved which increased the total GUP Project area to 220.34 hectares. There was no addition of participants.
Tree growth was reported to be good and uniform as shown by the photographs below.
Maintenance work was done according to schedule. Wild boar attacks were reported at holding owned by Mr Zainuddin but there were no casualties. In addition, a root disease was also reported especially for rubber trees that have reached the age of one year.
Apart from that, the wooden bridge at the entrance of GUP Sinoko project was reported to be damaged and action must be taken immediately.
Rubber seedlings had been completely planted at the end of May. By June, it was reported that trees’ growth was in good condition. Weed control and manuring activities were according to plan.
Guidance on pruning using the ‘looper’ was carried out at Pn. Tonining Gadam’s lot. White root disease was detected during the girth census activities. In addition, wild boar and pests were also reported in participants’ lots. Prevention and recovery actions had been taken.
Planting activities is continuing by the participants. As of today, 181.87 hectares had been planted. However, reported that the planting activities were quite slow probably due to the drought season. Fertilization is actively on-going at the moment, while weeding (chemicals) has yet been implemented as the inputs are not supplied.
Controlled pruning and branch induction has started to be executed at several participants’ lot. Pest and barnacle’ controlled had been done by using Albarol fungus.
Maintenance of the holdings and training activities was carried out according as scheduled. It was reported that pink disease was detected in Kg Kuala Lumagar and Paung Maragang. Termites’ attacks were found in all location of the project. Treatment and preventive measures was then taken at the said locations.
Maintenance works were carried out according as scheduled. There were a bit of problem during the works on census circumference because the bridge is old and dangerous. Besides that, a total of 116 trees in the holdings of 10 participants were destroyed by the hurricane that hit Kg Kuala Lumagar and Paung Maragang.
As of June, it was reported that all field maintenance was done according to schedule. Root diseases were detected in several participants’ lot. However, control measures and precautions have been made by the participant with the help of supervisor.
Landslides have also occurred and two participant’s lots have been effected which destroyed almost 50 trees. Continued guidance has been conducted in phases to ensure that the current activities are according to schedule.
Following the severe summer in Sabah, especially in Bongawan and Membakut, weed control activities is not permitted to avoid burning incident.
It was reported that, RRIM 3001 clone that have reached the age of one year has cracks on the trunk that allow latex to flow. It is expected that it was due to the wind mildew disease. However, in Sabah it is hard to find calcium oxide that is used to cure the disease.
In addition, the white root disease in some of the participant’s lot is more disturbing. Besides that, in GUP Bambangan, deer and wild boar attacks had severely damaged the trees at the participants’ lots.
It was reported that the maintenance work will be carried out as scheduled and training session activities will be conducted every month according to the planting phase.
There was a spider web design on the trunks and branches of the trees which are suspected the characteristics of wind mildew disease. The disease attached nearly 20% of the tress at the lot. Besides that, termites have also attacked the tress and the scale of damage is 5. However, preventive measures to overcome these problems have been made.
Monitoring and maintenance activities were carried out according to schedule. Guidance and traning were also given to participants according to the planting phase or when needed. It was reported that there has been an increase in white root disease cases in the area. The disease begin to attack several lots in Kg Sinoko and Kg Kuala Lumagar. However, preventive measures have been conducted at the affected area.
Monitoring and maintenance activities are carried out according to schedule. Root disease control activity is often being carried at the participant’s holdings as a major activity in the area. It was reported that white root disease and wind mildew disease is among the main disease attacking the rubber trees in the area. However, preventive measure and disease control have been conducted along with the participants.
